In this video on CNN, Data Doctor Ken Colburn covers the top five common mistakes people make when backing up their data.
- Buying an external hard drive but not buying any backup software
- Installing backup software but not setting up the automatic scheduler
- Not verifying your backups
- Only having one copy of your data
- No off-site data sets
We are glad to see that the good Doctor included online backups in his top backup mistakes. Even though he notes it as one of the biggest business backup mistakes, anyone who has lost irreplaceable pictures to a natural disaster, realizes that having those precious memories backed up to an off-site location is invaluable.
Colburn describes online backups as inexpensive and easy to use. He states "With today’s plethora of online backup services, both consumers and businesses would do well to include an online backup of some sort to compliment any localized external backup system."
